The Londoner opens in June 2020

London gets a record number of new hotels in 2020. Topping the list of 65 new hotels is the first NoMad hotel outside the States which offers 91 hip new rooms within what used to be Bow Street Magistrates Court, opposite the Royal Opera House.

Nearby, on the Leicester Square site of the former Odeon Cinema West End, The Londoner creates a five star 'super boutique' hotel - as owners Edwardian Hotels describe it - which includes a ballroom and cinema in the deepest habitable-grade commercial building basement in London

January 2020 sees the much-anticipated opening of Tom Aikens' news fine-dining concept, Muse. In February 2020, Hoppers brings food from the roadside stalls of Sri Lanka to Pancras Square in Kings Cross. In March, Santiago Lastra - Rene Redzepi's righthand man for the Noma Mexico pop-up - launches debut restaurant KOL, a Mexican restaurant that's sure to attract the cool crowd in Marylebone. In spring, sushi chef Nobu Matsuhisa and actor Robert De Niro follow the success of their first London Nobu hotel in Shoreditch with a second hotel, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square. In the same vein as the original, you can expect modern luxury, minimal Japanese design and a Nobu restaurant close to Marble Arch.

From June, among some of London's most prestigious landmarks on Buckingham Gate, luxury boutique hotel The Guardsman offers the services of a private members' club to guests staying at its 53 luxurious bedrooms fitted out with free-standing baths.

Raffles Hotel London opens in 2020

 

The London outpost of Singapore's most famous hotel opens in 2020. The Raffles Hotel London transforms the Old War Office building in Whitehall into a luxury hotel.

A second Singapore-based luxury hotel group makes its first foray into Europe later in the year with the opening of the Pan Pacific London hotel. Set in One Bishopgate Plaza, the 237-room hotel has interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg, the Canadian design firm responsible for the Four Seasons Toronto and W New York Times Square.

The Market at 22 Bishopsgate

Bishopsgate, originally part of a major Roman road from London to Lincoln, is a hub of new opening activity. As well as a new hotel, the City street gets two new food halls in 2020, within a ten minute walk of each other. 22 Bishopsgate, which becomes London's second tallest building after The Shard when it's completed in 2020, houses The Market on its second floor as well as the city's highest viewing platform.

Over in Broadgate, the freshly refurbished building at 135 Bishopsgate becomes home to the eagerly awaited first Eataly in the UK, specialising in high quality Italian foods with restaurants, bars and a cooking school all on the ground and first floors.

Riverside Studios reopens in January 2020

 

After a five-year redevelopment Riverside Studios, Hammersmith's historic 86-year-old arts centre reveals its new multi-million-pound building. The reopening, staggered in three phases, started in November 2019 with Studio 8 Cafe and Bar opening alongside Sam's Riverside. From January 2020, you can catch a play at one of the two theatre spaces and see films at the two state of the art cinemas.

Victoria House - London's largest co-working space

London's largest co-working space is set to open in summer 2020. Repurposing a Grade II listed landmark, Victoria House on Bloomsbury Square has been the refurbished by LABS, a collective who also offer accommodation through STAY - the company is also behind STAY Camden which opens in March 2020. But back to that large co-working space (big enough for over 9,000 people) in Holborn; they've fitted it out with a statement hotel style lobby, cafe and bar, a gym and wellbeing centre, meeting rooms and a roof terrace.
