As summer gently retires, autumn makes a graceful appearance on the London scene. Bathing the city's landmarks in a sultry, golden light, this is the perfect season to take in the sights, silhouetted against the deep colours of the lingering dusk. Leisurely admire them while wandering through the streets imbued with crisp autumn air, gaze at them across the river from the elevated graceful arc of the London Eye, or rush by them as you jump on a bike and blow all the cobwebs away. Whatever you decide, there's something for everyone this autumn; from the artistic wealth of galleries, to the history and grandeur of the stately homes, and the symbolism and stature of international icons like St Paul's Cathedral.

This autumn is also packed with unique events. The Ideal Home Show returns to Earl's Court bursting with the latest designs and decor, while the renowned jazz and film festivals come fully stocked with culture. Not wanting to be overshadowed, Theatreland puts on a similarly first-class performance - highlights include new Agatha Christie play 'And Then There Were None'.

With its long, and often dark, history London is the perfect place to spend Halloween, be it down in the depths of the London Dungeons or wandering along a dark alleyway in the footsteps of Jack the Ripper. The flurry of fireworks that light up the city on the 5th November, combined with the pomp and pageantry of the Lord Mayor's Show, form a fitting tribute to the rich history, tradition and showmanship of this season.

Autumn Half Term is filled with family-friendly treats. Children can venture into outer space at a Science of Aliens exhibition or make music and mayhem at the Royal Albert Hall, while adults rediscover their youth flying through the sky on a trapeze or speeding down the slopes on skis.

And as the autumn sun sets, there's no better place to relax after the excitement of the day than in front of a blazing fire in one of London's many historic pubs.
