Travelling between London's two busiest airports - Heathrow due west of London, and Gatwick due south of the city - takes approximately 45 miles by road. There are no direct rail links or Tube lines, instead use one of the many coach services and taxis available.

Heathrow to Gatwick: By Coach

 

Having arrived at Heathrow, if your next connecting flight leaves via Gatwick, you must follow signs to Baggage Reclaim, collect your baggage if necessary, and then take a coach to Gatwick. National Express Airport coaches depart from the front of each terminal.

Frequency:
Coaches run seven days a week from 12.05am to 11.35pm, on average every 10 to 15 minutes.

Duration:
The journey times average 70 minutes, but could be longer depending on traffic.

Heathrow to Gatwick: By Taxi

 

There are taxi desks at each of the Heathrow terminals. A Black Cab taxi holding up to 5 people can also be picked up from outside the airport. There is no need to pre-book a taxi, simply go to the taxi rank on each of the terminal forecourts. However, to avoid the inevitable queues for taxis, you can book in advance through London Black Cabs. 48-hours notice is required for airport transfers. Flights arrival times are monitored by reservation staff so you do not need to worry about delays to your flight. You will be met outside the customs area by your driver who will assist you in carrying your luggage to the vehicle. London Black Cabs can also arrange your return journey at the time of booking.

Approximately 60 minutes.

Gatwick to Heathrow: By Coach

 

Having arrived at Gatwick, if your next connecting flight leaves via Heathrow, you must follow signs to Baggage Reclaim, collect your baggage if necessary, and then take a coach to Heathrow. All National Express Aiport coach services leave from London Gatwick's coach station on the ground floor of South Terminal. Principal services also call at the North Terminal. Passengers arriving at South Terminal but requiring North should take the transit.
