Butchers and Bakers
Fresh hot cross buns, the many-layered simnel cake, and crisp Easter biscuits are the ideal teatime treats over the Easter break, while Sunday lunch should involve tender seasonal meats like rabbit and lamb. Here's where we think you should be heading to pick up your goodies...

Konditor & Cook
Curzon Soho Cafe, 9 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 5DYFavourites with Madonna and Geri Hall, Konditor & Cook are noted for their chic, funky designs, which they show off on the Easter eggs in their five branches. Less flashy, but impressively delicious, are the hot cross buns and simnel cakes that they make in their onsite kitchens at this time of year. Details below are for the Soho branch, and there are also branches in London Bridge, Waterloo, Gray's Inn Road, and the City of London.

Baker & Spice
54-56 Elizabeth Street, SW1W 9PBFreshness is all at Baker & Spice, whose (mostly organic and seasonal) ingredients are bought in daily from markets and small suppliers across London. The two consequences of this are fresh flavours that are perfect for spring, and eye-watering prices that are well-suited to the smart areas that are home to their four London branches. Details below for the Belgravia branch, other branches are in Queen's Park, Chelsea and Maida Vale.

Daylesford Organic Pimlico
44B Pimlico Road, SW1W 8LPLady Carole Bamford’s Daylesford Organic Food Hall is our favourite of the new breed of organic superstores: a thoroughly restrained British alternative to the lavishly commercial Whole Foods Market. Excellent breads, cakes and chocolates are combined with a flair for packaging that makes this a great place to buy Easter gifts. If you want to get all your Easter shopping out of the way in a single shop, this is also a good place to try.

Ottolenghi
287 Upper Street, London, N1 2TZDon’t be put off by the bland vegetarian recipes he writes in the Guardian: Yottam Ottolenghi’s delicatessens are a delightful alternative to depressing whole food worthiness, using ingredients and recipes from all over the world. The bakery is inspired largely by continental Europe, with rich buttery pastries in the French style, and tasty breads from Scandinavia. Everything is presented beautifully and all three branches have places you can sit down and taste your purchases. Details below are for the Islington branch, there are also branches in Notting Hill and Kensington.

Villandry
170 Great Portland Street, W1W 5QDTwo-dozen different breads and pastries are available every day at Villandry, and they’re easily able to turn their ovens to the making of exciting seasonal products as well. This is another place where you can get all your Easter shopping done at once, with a confectioner and a butcher both onsite.

Euphorium Bakery
202 Upper Street, London, N1 1RQWhile others focus on elaborate cake decorations, minimalist store decor and selling overpriced lattes to yummy mummies, Euphorium baker and pattiserie is all about tradition, which makes it an excellent place to pick up your hot cross buns and simnel cakes. Ingredients are fresh and organic, and friendly service has made both branches enormously popular in Islington.

HG Walter
51 Palliser Road, London, W14 9EBWe included a full list of London's finest butchers in our Christmas article, and most of these will be as good for Easter as they were at Christmas. Due to editorial incompetence, however, HG Walter got left out, so we thought we'd redress the balance here. HG Walter is a west London legend: famous not just for its reliably world-class meat, but also for staff who mix expertise and courtesy, know every detail about the provenance of your purchases, and who are always happy to do three-quarters of the prep work on your joint themselves. It's a small store, and they keep a lot of their stock out back, so be sure to ask if they don't have the cut you're after.

Farmer Sharp at Borough Market
Borough Market, London, SE1 1TLIf you're determined to have the best leg of lamb in London for your Easter lunch, then Sharp's stall in Borough Market is the place to get it. Andrew Sharp's family have been raising sheep in the hills of the Lake District for four centuries, and his stall is now the public face of a small collective who have rebelled against standardised modern breeds. The lamb sold at this stall comes from the slow-growing Herdwick breed, and offers a dense, lean meat that is healthier and more flavoursome than the meat sold in most butchers.
