Overlooking Bloomsbury's Russell Square, Kimpton Fitzroy London launched in October 2018. Its Grade II listed terracotta exterior and marble interior, both part of the original 1898 design, make it an eye catching five star hotel close to the British Museum.

Designed by Charles Fitzroy-Doll, who was also responsible for the design of RMS Titanic, Kimpton Fitzroy London (previously The Principal London) originally opened as a hotel in 1898 and stands out on Russell Square thanks its striking terracotta exterior. While four British queens - Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne and Victoria - guard the entrance, inside the 334-room hotel is a bronze dragon (find it on the landing of the main staircase) , 'Lucky George' - the Titanic had an exact replica. Rooms have a contemporary interior and lavish feel , designed by Tara Bernard and Russell Sage, and provide a practical place to stay, with custom-made beds and work desks. At the heart of the hotel is the magnificently restored Palm Court. For something more casual, try Burr & Co., and for glamorous nights out head to Fitz's bar for a cocktail or two.

Brett Redman and Margaret Crow, the duo behind The Richmond in Hackney, have moved in with the Kimpton Fitzroy London to give us Neptune, a seafood focused restaurant and oyster bar. In a contemporary space within the historic Grade II* listed hotel in Bloomsbury, Neptune is a 102-cover restaurant with a 30-seater bar. Based on an informal approach to the classic oyster bar, the display of oysters and shellfish selected from independent growers around the UK is at the centre of Neptune's dining room. Order towering seafood platters or choose from Brett's signature wood-fired cooking from the a la carte menu. Steamed-to-order whole Cornish crab with spaghetti, caviar, cucumber and absinthe daquiri cocktails as well as natural and low-intervention wines are served against a modern dining room with a graphic wooden floor, peach ceiling and artworks curated as a rolling exhibition.

Do You Like Chocolate? Afternoon Tea at Kimpton Fitzroy London

What better way to celebrate the season of indulgence than a chocolate Afternoon Tea?

Forget counting the calories and indulge your sweet tooth at Fitz's, the glamorous bar at Kimpton Fitzroy London, a grand terracotta hotel on Bloombury's Russel Square. The indulgent Afternoon Tea - entitled 'Do You Like Chocolate? - infuses everything from the cocktails to the cakes with top quality cacao. Thibault Marchand, winner of Bake Off: The Professionals 2019 has worked with Sean Fennelly, the man in charge of the hotel's bars, to create the chocolate-inspired menu. It starts innocently enough with four savoury finger sandwiches filled with smoked trout, carrot, fig and tandoori chicken. The next course steps up the indulgent factor with chocolate as well as plain scones to savour and smother with clotted cream, blueberry jam and passion fruit curd. Leaving the most decadent until last, the main chocolate hit is hand delivered on a tiered stand. Four cakes come laced, layered and topped with chocolate. A very grown up afternoon tea (for over 18s only), it's served in the sumptuous surroundings of the hotel's decadent, dimly lit cocktail bar, designed by Russell Sage Studio. Under billowing silk fabric in autumnal colours an outsized glitter ball hangs overhead while you perch on plush velvet seats with scalloped edges.
