Golden Jubilee at the Tower of London

The Tower marks The Queen’s Golden Jubilee with a series of events throughout the summer, starting with The Castle and the Crown Exhibition Using paintings, artefacts, documents and jewels, the exhibition explores the Tower's long association with the Crown Jewels and the coronation. Or you may prefer to join the medieval armies of the King as they struggle for control of the fortress at Attack the Tower! Finally, Medieval Military looks at the weapons used in the Middle Ages to protect the Tower.

Other Event Highlights13 June – Opera Gala at Hampton Court Palace Festival

Stars from the world of international opera perform in celebration of the Golden Jubilee. Bryn Terfel is joined by special guests, Ramon Vargas and Recca Evans, accompanied by the English Chamber Orchestra. The evening will close with The Beating of The Retreat and a fireworks display on the East Front.

13 June – Bond Night

On the evening of the 13 June, Bond Street will close from Oxford Street to Piccadilly and the street will become a party paradise with entertainers, musicians, glamorous guests and champagne. In addition to music, street performers and a balloon race, all-girl quartet Bond will be performing. The event is in aid of Barnado’s.

Other Event Highlights21-23 June – Fayre in the Square

Join the fun in Berkeley Square as the area is transformed by jugglers, costumed actors, stilt-walkers and wandering musicians who will be re-creating the two historic Elizabethan periods. There will be open-air concerts, including Courtney Pine, who performs on 22 June (Ticketmaster 020 7344 4444), children’s shows, street entertainment, food stalls and funfair rides.

Other Event Highlights6 July – Jubilee Favourites Concert at Kenwood House

A specially selected programme to combine some of the nation’s favourite pieces of classical music, including extracts from Handel's Messiah, Saint-Saëns' Coronation March and Handel's Zadok The Priest and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Many of the pieces have a Royal connection.

Other Event Highlights11–14 July – London Heathrow Youth Games

Europe's largest youth sports competition, attracting 20,000 competitors from all 33 London Boroughs. The event is now in its 25th year and was inaugurated in 1977 as part of The Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations.

13 July – Gala opening Southwark Park

Gala Opening celebrates the refurbishment of the park, mixing the traditional with the contemporary at this Golden Jubilee event. Attended by the Mayor of London and headlined by The Magnets and the legendary Chas and Dave.

14 September – Celebration of Time

A celebration procession along the Thames, Kew - Greenwich in a flotilla of craft. The craft named 'Jubiliant' carries a Caesium clock from Teddington to Greenwich - a colourful pageant, that re-enacts the process by which the Palace of Westminster and Whitehall regulated their clocks in the 18th-century. The event finishes at the Royal Observatory with a picnic and pageant at Greenwich Park. In addition a specially designed rowing craft for disabled sports people, the Royal Shallop 'Jubliant' will be at the centre of the procession.

The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay
 
The Queen's Jubilee baton is London-bound this weekend, before heading up to Manchester for the start of the Commonwealth Games (25 July). Grab the opportunity to see this record-breaking, history-making event in person. The baton arrives in Merton at 17:20 on Friday 12 July, carried by various people including Ian Botham and Sally Gunnell, who will bring the baton to Morden Park for 18:50. A fun fair, dancers, drummers and theatrical productions will then fill the park until 19:30. On Saturday 13 July the baton arrives at The Cutty Sark, Greenwich before leaving for Kenwood House, Hampstead Heath between 17:00 and 20:00 on Sunday 14 July.
