QUEEN’S LONDON PROGRAMME

HM The Queen, accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, will be touring the length and breadth of the UK and the Commonwealth in the Golden Jubilee Year. In particular, they will be visiting the four corners of the capital between May and July 2002.

9 May - London (East)

Visit to Walthamstow where the Queen will present Jubilee awards for outstanding civic achievement. She then travels to Redbridge to view allotments, including ones tended to by adults with physical and learning disabilities. The Queen and The Duke then attend a reception at Upton Park – home of West Ham Football Club. The Queen will meet craftsmen working on the restoration of Eastbury Manor House in Barking, while The Duke visits the University of East London.
 
 
18 May

The Queen takes the salute at All The Queen’s Horses at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The Queen visits the Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Hospital, Chelsea. One of the highlights of the London calendar, The Queen visits the show the day before the doors are flung wide to the public.

The Queen opens the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace. Having undergone a major refurbishment project worth £10million, the Queen's Gallery re-opens to the public on 22 May 2002. As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, it will host an exhibition called Royal Treasures.

6 June - London (North)

The Queen will thank workers at a bus depot in Brent for working throughout the Golden Jubilee weekend. She will then be joined by The Duke to watch a parade of North London communities in Barnet. They will then attend a reception at Alexandra Palace for local communities. Finally, they will attend a garden party at Lambeth Palace, central London.
 
 
8 June

HM The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attend the Derby at Epsom from 12:55pm. One of the oldest - and greatest - horse races in the world, the prize money totals £1million.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attend The Queen’s Birthday Parade, Horseguards. Better known as Trooping the Colour, the parade marks the 'official' birthday of the Queen. Her actual birthday is 21 April but it is a long-standing tradition to publicly celebrate her birthday on a summer day. The Queen takes the salute at 11:00. At 12:50 there is a gun salute in Green Park. Spectators need to get to The Mall early to ensure a good view.
 
 
18 - 22 June

HM The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attend Royal Ascot in Berkshire. Royal Ascot is not just about racing, but fashion and style, too. The rest of the Royal Family - big racing fans - drive from Windsor each day in open horse-drawn carriages to watch a varied programme of high quality racing.

25 June - London (West)

The Queen unveils Anticipation, a statue by Anita Lafford in Uxbridge. The Queen and The Duke will then meet people trying to encourage business development in West London at Gunnersbury Park. Next stop is All Saints Parish Church in Kingston-upon-Thames where the Queen will unveil a stone commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the coronation of King Edward the Elder. Finally, they will travel to Bushy to meet some local charities and childrens groups.
 
 
4 July - London (South)

The Queen and The Duke visit the newly refurbished Broadway Theatre in Lewisham and the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. Following a reception at Addington Palace for South London communities, The Queen will watch the London Youth mini games at Crystal Palace Park.

The Queen hosts a garden party at Buckingham Palace for people born on Accession Day - 6 February 1952. Party from 4-6pm.
 
 
The Queen's Programme23 July

The Queen opens the new Greater London Authority building alongside the Thames near Tower Bridge. In the evening, she will attend a gala at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh host a garden party at Buckingham Palace for representatives from charities of which Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are Patron.
