Windsor

The word, Windsor, conjures up images of royalty, rivers and romantic England. Windsor Castle is the Royal Borough’s biggest attraction and is the largest occupied castle in the world.

A royal fortress for over 900 years, it is still the Queen’s official residence. Monarchs have been married, buried and imprisoned within its thick stone walls.

Step inside the castle complex and take a journey into Britain’s royal past. Stroll through the stunning State Apartments containing the Queen’s extensive private art collection. Open to the public when the royal family is away, these sumptuous rooms were restored after the devastating fire of 1992.

Marvel at the magnificent detail of Queen Mary’s Dolls House, a miniature masterpiece given to the then Queen by the nation in 1923. Soak up the majestic atmosphere of St George’s Chapel, a beautiful building that rivals Henry VII’s chapel in Westminster Abbey.

Eton College nestles on the banks of the River Thames in an idyllic riverside location. One of the most famous boys schools in the world, its pupils are instantly recognizable in their distinctive tailcoats. Prince Harry still attends the school, and former pupils include the Duke of Wellington, George Orwell and Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond.

Relax with a visit to Windsor Great Park. A lush area of parkland set in the grounds of a former royal hunting forest, it covers over 4,800 acres of land and is rammed with historical attractions. Wander round the Ruins, fragments of Roman buildings brought from Libya in 1817. Catch a glimpse of the rare red deer that graze there, reintroduced by the Queen to mark her Silver Jubilee in 1977.
