Group C: England, United States, Algeria, Slovenia

Given the home strip of each of the four teams, we'll call this the White Group. England, of course, will be favourites and should win all their games (provided the players concentrate on their game and not each others' Wags). You have to fear for both Algeria and Slovenia though. Given the amount of Americans in London, things will be exciting for England's clash with the United States.

Well, it's more a question of where won't you be able to watch England's games this summer as opposed to where you will. You'll be hard pressed to find a bar or pub in town that won't be showing England's likely progression to the knock-out stages and equally likely elimination at the hands of France in the quarter finals. Of course, many pubs will be hell and so the place of choice for many fans will be in the office or safe in the comfort of their own armchair at home. But for those intrepid fans who seek a bit of ambiance as Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Frank Lampard and the other Three Lions players snarl, spit and shank their way around South Africa, how about these suggestions. A special World Cup Carnival is being put on at the Shepherd's Bush Pavillion with a huge 800-seater stand, a massive cinema screen, food and drink stalls and live DJs playing after-parties. Or you can hire out a stable box at Proud Camden. Or try out the giant screen in the basement of Fitzrovia's new international street-food themed cocktail bar Jetlag. Alternatively, enter the free raffle to watch the games at the O2 Academy Islington. Tournaments in recent history have been a bit of a duff occasion for England fans - but the Fabio Capello era has upped the ante. Surely this year football will finally be coming home?

You can't get much more American that the Hard Rock Cafe on Piccadilly. Although not a sports bar, the Hard Rock Cafe is one of London's top spots for watching the Super Bowl Final and usually shows the occasional World Cup game, especially if the United States are involved. Expect the place to be packed to busting point for the match against England, although you should have space to enjoy your burgers and fries during the less glamorous games against Algeria and Slovenia. For a more sports-dedicated venue, then head to the Sports Cafe on Haymarket. This massive venue has a real American vibe to it and wherever you are you'll be surrounded in TV screens so you shouldn't miss any of the action - provided you get in. A final, more relaxed, option comes in the shape of Tinseltown, a 24-hour American diner in Farringdon which has a couple of TV screens. The food and table service aren't anything to write home about but the milkshakes are great - and come in 60 varieties. As for the USA's prospects: with players such as Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey, group qualification alongside England is likely, but don't expect a repeat of the quarter-final run in 2002.

Thousands of Algerian football fans celebrated on the streets of London after their football team beat rivals Egypt in a play-off last November to qualify for the World Cup. Crowds thronged Finsbury Park, Edgware Road and Marble Arch after their team won 1-0 to qualify for the first time in 24 years. With that in mind, you can gauge just how vast the celebrations will be if Algeria beat England in their second World Cup game in South Africa. As Algerians do not drink, it's rather hard suggesting pubs or bars where Algerians would go to watch their side, the Desert Foxes. Anywhere around the Finsbury Park Mosque should offer a good atmosphere, especially Holloway Road (which was busier than an Arsenal home game after the Egypt match). But you'll have to play it by ear because most supporters will watch the games at home or with friends in local Algerian-owned cafes. The Algerian Social Club (20 Blackstock Road, 020 7359 8768) may be worth checking out - there is bound to be a screening of games. If it's a bar you're after, head to the Marble Arch area and play it by ear. Alternatively, Jetlag bar - an international street food-themed bar in Fitzrovia - is showing all games on demand and has Algerian houmous and pitta on its menu.

Since their inception in 1992, Slovenia have only qualified once for the World Cup and have yet to record a win. With Algeria in their group in South Africa, this could change - although England and USA remain overwhelming favourites to progress to the last 16. London's small Slovenian population are making The Colonies pub in St James's their hub for a World Cup campaign that will surely last just the three games. The wood-panelled pub is usually closed on the weekends but it will open specially for all of the World Cup matches and has three plasma screens, one of which is located in their outside garden - perfect for summer evening games. West Kensington's Famous 3 Kings sports pub have multiple screens and have been known to put on individual games at request (including, in the past, a Slovenia game) so that could be a good bet. For the side's clash against England, however, Slovenian fans can take their pick - virtually every pub and bar in London will be showing the game, but support will be overwhelmingly in favour of Fabio Capello's men.
