London area of NW8 guide
What to do and where to stay in London's NW8 neighbourhood
St John's Wood stands out in the NW8 district, famous for both Lord's Cricket Ground and Abbey Road Studios. Home to some of the most expensive properties in the world, much like neighbouring Hampstead Heath and Belsize Park, St John's Wood was one of the first London suburbs to be developed with a large amount of low density 'villa' housing, as opposed to the terraced housing which was the norm in London. The area becomes extremely busy whenever the England cricket team play at Lord's, renowned all across the world as the 'Home of Cricket'. Test matches are often seen as a social occasion by the elite in the area and ticket prices for the ground often reflect this. Up the road from Lord's is the famous Abbey Road Studios, where The Beatles recorded their illustrious Abbey Road album, complete with the iconic cover image of the 'Fab Four' crossing the road outside the studios. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney owns a property in the area, along with other famous music and film stars.
