What to do and where to stay in London's Paddington neighbourhood
The only neighbourhood in London famed for a polite duffle coat-wearing Peruvian bear with a penchant for marmalade sandwiches, Paddington is centred around the Paddington Basin and its Isambard Kingdom Brunel-designed station, which contains a statue of the classic children's fictional character Paddington Bear. Princes William and Harry were both born in the area's St Mary's Hospital, while Little Venice has become a popular spot at the junction of Regent's Canal and the Paddington arm of the Grand Union Canal. The neighbourhood was subject of a BBC fly-on-the-wall docu-soap in the late 90s called Paddington Green, which explored the lives of residents in the area and was narrated by Ross Kemp, aka Grant in the soap opera EastEnders.
