London area of South London guide
What to do and where to stay in London's South London neighbourhood
The River Thames splits London into two parts and the southern part includes the historic central areas of Southwark, Lambeth, Bankside and maritime Greenwich. The boroughs which make up South London are Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Kingston, Lewisham, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth. Compared to North London, South London is only served by a small section of the London Underground, although the overland train network is excellent. The area has its own regional newspaper, the South London Press, based in Streatham. Gatwick Airport is located below South London in Sussex.
