The world premiere of Disney's A Christmas Carol, in Leicester Square on 3rd November, is marked with three sets of Christmas lights across London being switched on simultaneously. The lights at Oxford Street, Regent Street and St Paul's Cathedral will be turned on by different members of the film's cast with Jim Carrey (voicing the main character of Scrooge in the film) lighting up Oxford Street. Also in The West End, just around the corner on neighbouring Regent Street, Colin Firth and Robin Wright Penn will be doing the honours and at the same time Bob Hoskins - Mr Fezziwig in the film - lights up the iconic dome of St Paul's overlooking the City. At each location there will be live concerts, as well as a world-record breaking attempt at St Paul's Cathedral. Charles Dickens' classic tale of A Christmas Carol is a seasonal favourite and - given that Dickens often used the city as inspiration for his books - it's very fitting that London is playing host to the film's first public showing. From 7.30pm, the film will be screened in three Leicester Square cinemas - the Odeon Leicester Square, The Empire Leicester Square and the Odeon West End - with members of the cast appearing on the red carpet.
