- Visitor Information
Prince Charles joins forces with musicians, comedians, environmental experts and some of Britain's best known companies and celebrities to create A Garden Party To Make A Difference, a festival of sustainability this September. Taking place in the normally private gardens of Clarence House, Marlborough and Lancaster House on the Mall, the 12-day festival provides a unique opportunity for members of the public to see the historic gardens hidden behind the Palace walls. The brainchild of HRH The Prince of Wales, the Garden Party will cover everything from gardening, eating and exploring more sustainable ways of heating our homes. The whole point is to inspire people to start making positive lifestyle changes which will benefit both themselves and the whole planet. Contributors include Jools Holland (music), Jonathan Dimbleby (debate), Hugh Dennis (comedy), Alan Titchmarsh (gardens), Kate Humble (food), Kevin McCloud (ecocars) and Dame Vivienne Westwood (fashion). The home of the Queen Mother from 1953 to 2002, a tour of Clarence House is an excellent way of experiencing the living history of the British Royal Family. Situated next to St James's Palace the stately building was originally constructed between 1825 and 1827, following a design submitted by John Nash. More about Clarence House
