A Very Expensive PoisonLucy Prebble, the author of the hugely successful Enron, turns Luke Harding's book about the death of Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko into a play, directed by John Crowley at the Old Vic. What's impressive about A Very Expensive Poison, according to The Guardian, is its "kaleidoscopic variety of tone". It portrays the Russian agents who murdered Litvinenko in 2006 by putting polonium-210 into his teapot as blundering stooges, not elite operatives. It's both a love story and a black comedy. Bodyguard star Tom Brooke plays Alexander Litvinenko alongside MyAnna Buring as Marina Litvinenko, with Peter Polycarpou as Russian tycoon Boris Bereszovsky, Reece Shearsmith as The President and Gavin Spokes as DI Hyatt Litvinenko. What Lucy captures really well is the "clash of incompetence and malevolence" says the Guardian's Luke Harding.
