Director Dominic Dromgoole launches his year-long Oscar Wilde Season at the Vaudeville with A Woman of No Importance, the first production from Classic Spring, the new theatre company from the former Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe. Comprising the writer's four great Victorian plays, the season starts with a pithy drama about the unfulfilled expectations of women in Wilde's time. The story entwines the fates of an earnest young American woman and a louche English lord at a house party. Starring Eve Best as Mrs Arbuthnot, Eleanor Bron, Anne Reid and William Gaunt.
About Vaudeville Theatre
Designed by CJ Phipps, the Vaudeville is the third theatre to be built on this site. The current Vaudeville opened on 23rd February 1926 with a revue called RSVP. One of the theatre's major successes was in 1954 with the musical 'Salad Days', starring Julian Slade and Deborah Reynolds. More about Vaudeville Theatre
