This is one of those productions that is anticipated with expectant excitement; the latest show from award-winning dancer and choreographer Adam Cooper, Shall We Dance has all the promise of a soaring, evocative, lavish dance spectacle. It's Cooper's first new production at Sadler's Wells since Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 2005 - which was lauded as "exquisite and haunting" (The Stage) - and the story of one man's quest to find true love is beating in time with a medley of Richard Rodgers' much-loved music including tunes from Oklahoma!, King and I and On Your Toes, played by a full orchestra. Cooper's brand of "musical theatre without words" (The Independent) spans traditions, sprinkling ballet with modern forms as he travels from the Orient to the Wild West through the cool vibe of New York jazz and the dizzying energy of a Viennese ballroom.
