Charles Darwin's book 'The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals' is the premise for this Natural History Museum exhibition of contemporary art. Written in 1872, through the book Darwin explores the emotional expressions of baboons, snakes and hens to get to grips with those of man. In After Darwin: Contemporary Expressions the artists - who include Bill Viola, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night author Mark Haddon and Ruth Padel, a descendant of Darwin's - take up his investigation using art and literature, transforming the gallery into an observational laboratory. Works by Gautier Deblonde, Diana Thater and Tina Gonsalves feature. The Berlin-based artist has been exploring human emotions in a variety of ways - film, installations, mixed media - for the last ten years and her Chameleon Project has been shown here has also been seen at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.About Natural History Museum
