Agnes MartinTate Modern stages the first retrospective exhibition of work by Agnes Martin since her death just over a decade ago. The American painter, renowned for her subtle canvases marked out in pencil grids and pale colour washes, was a key figure in the traditionally male-dominated fields of 1950s and 1960s abstraction. Her work, according to one New York critic, "has the quality of a religious utterance, almost a form of prayer".

About Tate Modern

Located along the banks of the River Thames in the former Bankside Power Station, originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1947, the architect of Battersea Power Station, Tate Modern opened to great acclaim in 2000. Since then it has welcomed millions of visitors through its imposing doors. More about Tate Modern
