Airfix: Making HistoryAirfix: Making History tells the story of Airfix, manufacturers of everyone's favourite model making kits, in the year the company celebrates its 75th anniversary. The Royal Air Force Museum is an apt location to host the exhibition as many of the construction kits were modelled on pieces in the museum's collection. The largest manufacturer of plastic combs by 1947, Airfix branched out into toys and other domestic products and in 1952 embarked, with the little ship The Golden Hind, on producing kits, this was rapidly followed by the first of its aircraft kits, the 1:72 scale Spitfire in 1953. Older visitors will enjoy the nostalgia, younger viewers will be inspired to make their own.

About Royal Air Force Museum London

Britain's National Museum of Aviation, or RAF Museum, comprises several hundred thousand objects ranging in size from aircraft to lapel badges, and spanning more than a century of aviation history. The Historic Hangars, listed buildings that were part of the old Hendon Aerodrome, contain five exhibitions with an impressive collection of over 100 full-sized aircraft, some suspended from the ceiling, as if in flight.
