Zach Braff, famous for his role in US TV sitcom Scrubs, makes his UK stage acting debut in a comedy he wrote about a heartbroken 35-year-old man whose getaway to a Long Island beach house is interrupted by a not-so-merry band of misfits. All New People is "a slick and slight but lively new comedy by Zach Braff" according to the New York Times who praised the "smartly brisk direction of Peter DuBois" and "sharply drawn comic performances" when the play appeared Off-Broadway at the Second Stage theatre in the summer of 2011. For the play's 10-week season at the Duke of York's theatre on 22 February 2012 (following 1-week runs at the Glasgow Kings theatre and Manchester Opera House) Braff takes the lead role playing Charlie, a man at the end of his tether. His plans to end it all are interrupted by an influx of characters, including a hired beauty, a fireman and an eccentric British real estate agent. The actor told the Evening Standard: "It's always been a dream of mine to do a play in the West End. I never imagined I'd be lucky enough to have it be a play I'd written."About Duke of York's
This West End theatre has more than its share of name changes. Originally called The Trafalgar in 1894, it became the Duke of York's to honour the future King George V. During the late 1990s, the name was temporarily changed to The Royal Court Theatre. More about Duke of York's
