Alys, AlwaysJoanne Froggatt, who played Anna in Downton Abbey, takes on the lead role of Frances in Lucinda Coxon's gripping psychological thriller at The Bridge Theatre. Based on the novel by Harriet Lane, Alys, Always is about an unassuming Sunday newspaper journalist, whose world is turned upside down when she stops by the roadside to aid an injured motorist. With "a controlling and emotionally deficient female narrator" (The Guardian) as the protagonist, this story set among the London literary scene excavates the fault line that separates the entitled from the unentitled.

About The Bridge Theatre

What Nicholas Hytner did next: after 12 years as director of the National Theatre, the theatre chief is building a theatre from the ground up. Designed by Steve Tompkins and Roger Watts of Haworth Tompkins, winner of the 2014 Stirling Prize for architecture for the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, the Bridge Theatre brings theatre into the 21st century, offering theatre-makers a platform to create adventurous new work, and giving audiences a modern 900-seat adaptable theatre - capable of staging traditional, in-the-round and promenade performances.
