Andy Warhol: Photographs 1976 - 1987 The controversial American pop artist's work straddled the divides between artistic expression, pop culture, celebrity life, and advertisement. So too did his life. His name will forever be synonymous with New York in the 1970s and adjoining decades with the Studio 54 disco scene and The Factory, his infamous studio, which was a renowned gathering spot for the bohemians, artists, intellectuals and the Hollywood celebrities of his day. But despite being at the epicentre of this cultural revolution, Warhol was a quiet character and meticulous observer. And that is what makes his photographs so compelling. The exhibition will feature images from his final decade, starting from the year he began working with Polaroid and taking black-and-white photographs with a 35-millimetre camera. It will also include a small number of his stitched works, which he began creating In the 1980s by stitching together images to create multi-panelled works.

About Photographers' Gallery

The Photographers' Gallery - Britain's leading centre for contemporary photography - emerged from a 3.6 million pound redesign in May 2012 revealing the work of Irish architects O'Donnell and Tuomey. Relocating from Great Newport Street, its home for the past 27 years, to occupy a former warehouse built in Ramilies Street in 1910, The Photographers' Gallery has three floors of galleries, a studio floor for education activities, a bookshop, cafe and print sales space.
