Antony and CleopatraEve Best, who played Wallis Simpson in the Oscar-winning film The King's Speech, returns to Shakespeare's Globe to play Cleopatra in new production at of Shakespeare's Roman tragedy Antony and Cleopatra. The drama introduces us to the alluring and ambiguous Queen of Egypt who has bewitched the great Mark Antony, one of the three rulers of the Roman Empire. Tying in with the Globe's 2014 season theme of "Arms and the Man", the battlefield drama explores the conflicting claims of sex and power as Antony argues with his fellow leaders and his infatuation with Cleopatra threatens to split the Empire in two. Eve Best stars opposite Phil Daniels who plays Enobarbus, Antony's devoted friend.

About Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

This replica of the Shakespeare's 16th century theatre, reconstructed just 200 yards from its original site, is the brainchild of American actor and director Sam Wanamaker. Built in wood and thatch, using techniques from 400 years ago, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre opened in 1996. More about Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
