Astronomy Photographer Of The Year 2013The winning images of Astronomy Photographer of the Year are presented in a free exhibition at the Royal Observatory Greenwich which showcases some incredible images of the sky, from within our solar system and far into deep space. Images on display include winners from all the categories: Earth and Space, won by Mark Gee with his Guiding Light to the Stars; Our Solar System, Corona Composite of 2012: Australian Totality by Man-To Hui; Deep Space, Adam Block's Celestial Impasto: sh2-239; and the Young Astronomer Photographer of the Year, won by 14-year-old Jacob Marchio for his image of The Milky Way Galaxy. A further prize was given to the Best Newcomer, which is defined as an amateur astrophotographer who has taken up the hobby in the last year and who has not entered the competition before. In memory of The Sky at Night's Sir Patrick Moore, who was a previous judge in the competition, the prize is now titled 'The Sit Patrick Moore for Best Newcomer prize'. This year's award went to Sam Cornwell for his photo of the Venus Transit, Foxhunter's Grave, Welsh Highlands.
