The winning images of Astronomy Photographer of the Year are presented in a free exhibition at the Royal Observatory Greenwich which showcases some incredible images of the sky, from within our solar system and far into deep space. The winning entry for 2012 by Martin Pugh shows the M51 - The Whirlpool Galaxy, a stunning image of the archetypal spiral galaxy, pictured along with finalisits for all the categories: Earth and Space, Our Solar System, Deep Space, and the Young Astronomer Photographer of the Year which was won by 15-year-old Jacob von Chorus from Canada. Winning entries have come from all around the world with more images entered than ever before.
About Royal Observatory Greenwich
This museum of time and space was built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675. It marks the site of the Greenwich or Prime Meridian - the base point for World Time and the site of Longitude 0. If you time it right, you can watch the timeball drop at 13:00 each day. More about Royal Observatory Greenwich
