The exhibition of winning entries from the first ever Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition takes place, appropriately, at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich - home to London's only planetarium. The competition is part of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009), a year-long global celebration of astronomy taking place across 140 countries worldwide. The photography competition, launched in February, is free to enter and the winner stands to gain £1,000. This exhibition shows the winning entries as well as all photographers who contributed to the Astronomy Photographer of the Year group on Flickr. To view the entries online go to www.flickr.com/groups/astrophoto
COMPETITION: Photographers can enter online by visiting www.nmm.ac.uk/astrophoto
CATEGORIES: * Earth and Space * Our Solar System * Deep Space * Special award for young astronomers (under 16)
Entrants to the three categories may submit five photographs to the competition and five per month to Astronomy Photographer of the Year group on Flickr. Entries close on Sunday 19th July 2009.
