BBC Broadcasting House Tour
Nearby BBC Broadcasting House Tour

Currently undergoing major restoration, due for completion in 2012, you can still get a work-in-progress tour of BBC Broadcasting House ahead of the grand unveiling. Built in 1932, the iconic Art Deco building in Portland Place was the UK's first ever purpose-built broadcast centre and the history of the building is revealed on the tour which lasts approximately one and a half hours. As part of the renovations Radio Theatre and Council Chamber have been newly restored, a good example of how the old building has been updated to keep up with the latest digital techniques. You'll get to walk the famous corridors and take a peek into the some of the radio studios used by popular Radio 3 and Radio 4 programmes, including Woman's Hour and Desert Island Discs. You might even get to have a go at making your own radio drama, complete with music and sound effects. Tours are suitable for children aged 12 years and over and last approximately one and a half hours.About BBC Broadcasting House
BBC HQ and home, in particular, to the BBC's famous Radio Theatre, Broadcasting House is an iconic building in Portland Place. This purpose-built broadcast centre, erected in 1932 to an art deco design, continues to serve as the heart of the British Broadcasting Corporation (even if the more substantial BBC Television Centre is across town in White City).
