Chinese New Year at BFI SouthbankMarking the Chinese New Year celebrations, the British Film Institute will be presenting 'Spectacular China', a season of films from Feng Xiaogang, a man often compared with Steven Spielberg, and arguably the most successful filmmaker in China today. The first person from mainland China to have his hands and feet immortalised in cement at Hollywood's Chinese Theatre, Feng's films include 'Back to 1942' (tipped for the Best Foreign Language film at this year's Academy Awards), his 2008 romantic comedy 'If You Are the One', and the darker 'Aftershock' (2010). Feng Xiaogang himself appears 'in conversation' on the BFI stage on Friday 21st February 2014. This February programme comes ahead of a four month China season at the BFI, presented in partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival.
