London-based Indie-pop and electro folk singer-songwriter Natasha Khan - aka Bat for Lashes - swings by the HMV Forum for two nights as part of her and her autumn headline Tour around the UK and Europe. Following her critically acclaimed debut album Furs and Gold, and her successful follow-up Two Suns, 32-year-old Khan is back with a third album, having Toured with Coldplay and collaborated with Beck. The new album, The Haunted Man, is released two weeks before these back-to-back London gigs and features the lead single, Laura (described by NME as "a deft, heartfelt ballad which floats upon sombre piano and delicate horns"), which Khan and her ever-changing Bat for Lashes live line-up have performed at gigs and festivals over the summer.
Once a gorgeous art deco cinema, The Forum is now an essential mid-sized rock venue. It's got everything you want from the North London rock scene, with superb bands week-in week-out, and a fully-lubricated, enthusiastic and music-loving crowd. Well-designed and well-organised it manages to avoid the bar queues that are a feature of so much London gigging, while the main stage has great sound and a design that brings bands far closer to their audiences than you have any reason to expect in a venue this size.
