Bauhaus: Art as Life

This year the Barbican will be showcasing the biggest Bauhaus exhibition in the UK for over 40 years; Bauhaus: Art as Life. The exhibition's name aptly describes the intension of what the world famous art school represented - the notion of creating an everyday relationship between art and life. The school diminished the traditional teaching method of student and teacher and instead encouraged the concept of a community of artists working together. This exhibition will feature an array of work including paintings, sculptures, photography, textiles and film from artists such as Walter Gropius, Anni Albers and Paul Klee, as well as lesser-known artists and Bauhaus students. There will also be a public programme including workshops, talks and performances, plus the Bauhaus Summer School: an intensive two-week school at the Barbican.
