TV presenter Ben Fogle and Olympic oarsman James Cracknell tell of their televised race to the Antarctic, On Thin Ice, at a special event, part of the Book Now Literature Festival which takes place throughout November in various venues in Richmond. Given the gruelling journey in sub zero temperatures, battling frostbite and surviving on a couple of hours of snatched sleep, it was no surprise that tempers became frayed and judgement impaired. Ironically, given his uncomprising determination, it was Cracknell who looked like he wasn't going to make it across the finish line. Finally they finished - only to find the Norwegians had got there first. Still, it makes for a good story, one that they've made into a book and will be talking through at this event at York House. Not content with sitting still, Ben and James's current challenge is a 450-mile rickshaw cycle from Edinburgh to London.
