- Visitor Information
The Bermondsey Carnival takes revellers through the streets of Southwark, celebrating summer with a colourful parade. Starting at Bermondsey Spa Gardens at 12 noon, local schools and community groups taking part in the carnival parade will pass along Grange Road, through The Blue Market and head up Southwark Park Road to finish at Southwark Park. At the park 'The Event' offers further free family entertainment with a day of live music, market stalls and a funfair from 1pm until 10pm. This year's theme for the parade is a Juke Box Journey and local arts group Arts Desire have helped to create the colourful costumes and decorations to tie in with the musical voyage. At the end of the parade, you'll arrive at 'The Event' where you can enjoy live music from Alexander O'Neal supported by The Blockheads and special guests The Bachelors. There's also a 'Green Space' area where recycling ideas are injected with a bit of fun with things like mural making and pedal powered karaoke.About Southwark Park
Southwark Park in Bermondsey first opened its gates to the public in 1869 and was one of the earliest parks to be opened by the Metropolitan Board of Works. Covering an area of 63 acres, the design of the park is attributed to Alexander McKenzie (who also landscaped Finsbury Park) and offers fantastic wide-open spaces, perfect for playing games, picnics, walking or just enjoying the scenery.
