Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red888,246 ceramic poppies, each representing a British and Colonial military fatality during the First World War, fill the dry moat at the Tower of London as a beautiful and moving tribute to those who laid down their lives. As part of the evolving installation by ceramic artist Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper poppies will be 'planted' by over 8,000 volunteers from across the UK with the last poppy put into position on Armistice Day, 11th November 2014. At twilight each day the names of 180 serving military killed during the First World War being read out in a roll of honour. Each poppy is be available to buy for 25 pounds and ten per cent from each poppy, plus all net proceeds, will be shared equally amongst six service charities - an amount which could total millions of pounds if all the poppies are sold. A visually striking way of picturing the magnitude of the war dead at the centenary of the outbreak of First World War.

About Tower Of London

With close to 1,000 years of royal history lurking within its highly fortified walls, a trip to the Tower of London is like traveling back to a time of intrigue and drama. Make your way from Traitor's Gate to join Sir Walter Raleigh in the Bloody Tower as he awaits his fate for allegedly plotting against James I. More about Tower Of London
