Tackling one of the most iconic films of 20th century American cinema is a bold move - there's Audrey Hepburn's Givenchy dress, Audrey Hepburn's hairstyle, Audrey Hepburn's cigarette holder, Audrey Hepburn in New York, Audrey Hepburn singing Moon River; there's Audrey Hepburn. But Anna Friel, playing Hepburn's character of Holly Golightly in the stage version of Breakfast at Tiffany's at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, is as cute as a button; the right mix of sexy streetwise chic and girl next door, lost in the big city. The story, as per the film, is an elusive, off-the-wall love affair between the charming, free-spirited Holly, who pays her way by flitting from one man to another but needs a rich "catch", and her neighbour, the handsome, hard-up writer who himself may be a kept man. The quirky nature of the film makes the business of putting it on stage a less comparative one as it is the misty modern fairytale that needs to be captured rather than a literal rendition, whilst the glamour simply needs to be a la Hepburn.
