Briefs: Close EncountersOver the past four years Briefs has become one of the highlights of summer on London's South Bank. Now they're back at the Underbelly Festival for their longest ever season in the capital, performing a brand new show. Close Encounters presents an alien invasion of cabaret burlesque, comic capery Australian machismo and punkish swagger. Taking us into space these extraterrestrial invaders offer a mix of comedy, dance, tumbling and juggling, flying trapeze, hula hooping, lip-syncing, sequins, feathers and frocks. What began in 2008 as a speakeasy in the bowels of Brisbane's alternative variety scene has now become a mainstay of summer in London with Commander Shivannah (Fez Faanana) at the helm.

About Underbelly Festival

Each summer, from May to September, a Speigeltent (from the Dutch for 'mirror tent') is set up in the shadow of the Southbank Centre, to host the wierd and wonderful Udderbelly Festival circus and cabaret acts. Adjacent to the river Thames, the Speigeltent is part of a site which includes fairground rides, bars and a programme of international cabaret, music and fringe theatre.
