This year, Lambeth Council has chosen Brockwell Park and not Clapham Common for the area's annual Fireworks Display on Bonfire Night. It promises to be one of south London's biggest fireworks events as locals from Brixton, Herne Hill and the surrounding areas flock to the 124-acre park for their dose of rockets, roman candles, sparklers and Catherine wheels. A good vantage point is from the top of the hill near to Brockwell Hall, a handsome Regency lodge that is celebrating its 200th anniversary. The spectacular pyrotechnic display will set the skies ablaze on the 406th anniversary of Guy Fawkes' botched attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament and King James I. Wrap up warm for this family-friendly event, which will boast a funfair and numerous food & drinks stalls (open from 4.15pm until 9.30pm) as well as a central bonfire and all the fireworks. Lambeth Council used to run three dazzling displays on 5th November - at Brockwell Park, Clapham Common and Streatham Common - but cuts mean these fiery celebrations currently work on a rotation. With that in mind, this mega-display at Brockwell Park will a hugely popular event attracting around 50,000 people so make sure you get along in good time.About Brockwell Park
Perhaps one of London's loveliest leafy expanses, Brockwell Park has become a mecca for fun-loving kiddies. Often termed "Brixton's Beach", the park is remarkable for its large lido, now one of the few remaining outdoor swimming pools in London. It is an ideal place to take a dip in the summer and catch some rays. More about Brockwell Park
