Royal Opera: CarmenBizet's charged opera is back with an impassioned vengeance that has never been quenched since it was produced in Vienna in 1875. Until December 2006, Carmen was absent from the Royal Opera House stage for 12 years, but then Francesca Zambello's production burst onto the scene with an explosive spirit. Bizet's tale of the sultry Spanish temptress and the murderous jealousy of her lover is perfect material for Zambello's extravagant style, conjuring up the colourful, sun-soaked land of 19th century Spain where dangerous passions sizzle, ready to burst through the oppressive heat at any moment. For this most sexy of operas, expect spectacular Broadway-style dance routines, flamboyant sets and costumes and a powerful fusion of music and action, where memorable tunes trip over each other, held beautifully together by the vivid, fervid life of the drama. Sung in French with English surtitles.

About Royal Opera House

This impressive building in the heart of Covent Garden has been playing host to major stars of the classical music world since 1858. The third theatre to be located on this site, today's Royal Opera House is the result of a reconstruction in the 1990s (although the main auditorium is part of the original building).
