Chickenshed, the theatre and dance company renowned for their inclusive approach, brings us the Crime of the Century, an original piece which takes the proliferation of knife crime amongst young people as its starting point. Dance, physical acting and visual projection are combined with a hip hop soundtrack. The narrative takes us on a sombre journey, ending in a fearful and fatal final scene. Using real life stories, and interviews with those who've experience knife crime first hand, the story is based on an all-too-familiar reality. The issue has been given careful consideration, looking at the perspectives of victims of knife crime as well as the perpetrators. A small cast of ten people - both disabled and able bodied - reveals the story through words, movement and with the help of projections and music. The company will be hoping to recreate their Edinburgh Festival Fringe success of 2007 when "as the mother of a brown boy..." was nominated for two theatre awards. Following this run at London's Chickenshed Theatre, the show travels to Zoo Southside for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 7th to 30th August.
