Cinderella

For Generation Z, reality television is like what Neighbours was to Generation Y, but that doesn't mean we think the Fairy Godmother should hang out in Ramsey Street. No such boundaries have stopped Jacksons Lane Theatre from giving us a Cinderella for a new generation, one that takes the ancient tale and gives it an all-singing all-dancing makeover. Our Cinders is looking for love on Britain's favourite talent show when who should she bump into but Prince Charming himself, except that's probably not his name anymore as he's been updated, of course, into someone uber trendy. In fact, all the much-loved characters have been cleverly reworked to fit the story's glossy new image and this modern fairytale promises to be a wave-your-magic-wand-and-all-sorts-of-stuff-happens kind of show with magic tricks, acrobatics and a few Christmas sprinkles on top. If your children know the romanticised fairytale from yesteryear, pre-warn them that this isn't the Cinderella from the classic book of bedtime stories. If they still want the glass slipper instead of the shiny sneaker, just tell them they're so last century.
