Nearby Comica Festival

The annual Comica Festival, a celebration of the graphic novel in all its guises, will be taking place between 5th and 26th November 2009 at the ICA and other venues across London. The festival includes a raft of exhibitions, talks, films and discussions which centre on comics in a variety of formats from the classic British humour of Viz to children's books like Sarah McIntyre's Mankiest Monster. The festival starts with a bang on Bonfire Night with the bar at the ICA staying open late as comic artist and co-creator of V For Vendetta, David Lloyd puts in an appearance for the Vendetta-themed night. As well as a 30 Years of Viz exhibition at The Cartoon Museum there's an exhibition by Hoshino Yukinobu at the British Museum - with the creator of Professor Munakata visiting the British Museum to create a new storyline for this much-loved manga character. The exhibition runs until 31st December and on 10th November, Paul Gravett, author of Manga: 60 Years of Japanese Comics and director of the Comica Festival gives a free lunchtime tour of the works. See www.comicafestival.com for the full list of events.About Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA)
The ICA boasts three galleries (exhibitions changing approximately every six weeks), a cinema, theatre, restaurant, bookshop and late bar and cafe. They also play host to series of lectures, events, late night art and music parties. Housed in elegant Regency premises on the Mall, the ICA is nonetheless a good place to start if you're looking for the very cutting edge of gallery art work.
