Highly respected Brazilian concert pianist Cristina Ortiz performs an evening of Debussy and Villa-Lobos at Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the International Piano Series. Although now a resident in the UK for many years, Ortiz remains faithful to her South American roots, often championing music from her native Brazil. Here, after an opening half featuring some of Claude Debussy's most popular solo piano pieces, Ortiz turns her attention to her country's foremost composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, whose 50th anniversary falls eight days after this recital. Ortiz's natural musicality, masterful craftsmanship and timeless commitment to honest playing has seen her develop a unique bond with global audiences over the last 30 years since she won the prestigious Van Cliburn Competition in 1969.
