David Baddiel: Fame: Not The MusicalTV funnyman David Baddiel comes out of ostensible comedy retirement with his first solo live stand-up show in 15 years. Now 48, the immensely likable and satirically smart Baddiel made his name as one half of comedy duo Newman and Baddiel in the late 80s, before becoming a regular fixture on TV with his sidekick Frank Skinner during the 'Loaded' years of the 90s. This Work in Progress show - entitled Fame: Not The Musical - sees Baddiel putting his comedic toe back into the ribald waters of stand-up for five consecutive nights at the Soho Theatre. The bespectacled novelist and screenwriter will be presenting ideas, telling anecdotes and testing out material in an intriguing show that will promises to deconstruct his own fame and our culture's obsession with fame in general. Given Baddiel's intellect and funny bones, this should be both thought-provoking and hilarious in equal measures - and his trademark relaxed delivery should give this belated return a nice convivial atmosphere. Endearingly self-deprecating, Baddiel will no doubt have a pop at his own celebrity status too.
