Artist David Ward transforms the vast P3 exhibition space into a virtual ice rink with a multimedia art work he has created for a commission by Ambika. Rink takes the lines, scuff marks and patterns made by ice skaters as they move across the frozen surface. Tracing their movements in light, the piece is constantly moving and changing, unfolding in front of you and around you. You can even walk among the lines, arcs and spirals as the absent skaters move around. This is one is a series of ice skating works by David whose previous observations on the subject are also shown in this exhibition. The small scale 'Memento' contrasts in size, presenting a postcard he
received in 1972 of Henry Raeburn's familiar painting of 'The Reverend
Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch'. If a visit to Rink inspires, you can always book in for the real thing at one of London's outdoor ice skating rinks and create your own art installation.
About Ambika P3
Located within the University of Westminster - Marylebone's campus, the vast 14,000 foot P3 exhibition and performance space - a former concrete-testing facility - is "one of the captial's hidden and most exciting new spaces" (The Guardian). Since opening in June 2007, P3 has hosted a huge variety of art installations and high profile events including the launch of Architecture Week, an exhibition on 'The Furniture of Chandigarh, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret' - the culmination of a five-year project - as well as fashion shows by Calvin Klein, Marks & Spencer and Top Man.
