Nearby Deutsche Borse Photography Prize

An exhibition of work shortlisted for the annual ?30,000 Deutsche Borse Photography Prize including images by Anna Fox, Zoe Leonard, Donovan Wylie and this year's winner, Sophie Ristelhueber. The renowned prize rewards the living photographer, of any nationality, who has made the most significant contribution to the medium of photography during the past year. Brett Rogers, chair of the jury, summarised this year's entries saying that the four finalists explore "pertinent ideas around gender, nationality, surveillance and political conflict". In his exhibition MAZE 2007/8, for example, Donovan Wylie investigates the psychology of architecture through one of Ireland's most oppressive institutions, the Maze prison. US photographer Zoe Leonard traverses photographic genres in her unique approach to urban anthropology while Anna Fox, nominated for her exhibition, Cockroach Diaries & Other Stories, dissects the bizarre and the ordinary in British life. But it was Sophie Ristelhueber's magnificent exhibition at the Jeu de Paume in Paris which scooped the prize, her images revealing the effects of war on bodies and landscapes.About Photographers' Gallery
