East End Film FestivalThe 14th East End Film Festival brings two London premieres and three UK firsts in a programme that offers documentary and narrative film,
covering themes of adolescent sexual awakenings, mental health and
global finance. Jellied eels, pie and mash, and Cockney rhyming slang used to be the top reasons to visit the East End but in 2015 it's more canapes and dinner party chat as arty types descend on this part of London for six days. But don't let that put you off - the East End Film Festival at Rich Mix has its roots in poor artistes flocking east for cheap rents and the multi-cultural buzz. With its focus on discovering and debating the most exciting new voices in international cinema, whilst championing East London filmmakers, screenings include the London premiere of Chameleon, a film about the so-called 'James Bond of Ghanaian journalism', and the UK premiere of Dora, or the Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents. This Saturday night screening is a coming-of-age film about a mentally disabled 18-year-old girl who has spent her whole life under the protection of her mother and family.
