Jellied eels, pie and mash, and Cockney rhyming slang have to be among the top reasons to visit the East End but it'll be more canapes and dinner party chat as arty types descend on this part of London for six days. But don't let that put you off - the East End Film Festival at Rich Mix and a host of other venues has its roots in poor artistes flocking east for cheap rents and the multi-cultural buzz. This gave rise to a burgeoning arts scene - bands, film-makers, artists - and the festival came about in 2001 as a response to the creative spark in East End movie-making. The expansion of the festival in the last few years has allowed a more international vibe to flourish and this year promises to be their best yet with a potent blend of contemporary British and world cinema. Expect a stunning line up of premieres, talks and summery outdoor screenings. Location map of East End Film Festival
