ElectraKristin Scott Thomas reunites with Ian Rickson following their acclaimed partnership last year on the revival of Harold Pinter's 'Old Times' to star in Electra, the tragedy of Electra and Orestes's revenge on their father's killers, as written by Sophocles. Scott Thomas plays a strong lead in the Greek tragedy adapted by Frank McGuinness and directed by 'Jerusalem' director Ian Rickson. It's the latest stage performance for the actress who won an Olivier Award in 2009 for her role in The Seagull at the Royal Court and who starred in Old Times at the Harold Pinter Theatre last year opposite Rufus Sewell. The production clips along at a fair old pace (there's no interval to interrupt the drama) and the high drama is occasionally broken when Electra quips a sacastic aside. With all that mourning and wailing, those lighter moments work well as a relief from the sense of betrayal and anger that infiltrates the production.

About Old Vic Theatre

With the exception of The Globe, the Old Vic has had a greater influence on the history of drama than any theatre standing today. From John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier, to Kevin Spacey and Judi Dench, the Vic has played host to generation after generation of stars since it opened its doors in 1818. More about Old Vic Theatre
