English National Ballet: Le Corsaire (The Pirate)When the English National Ballet performs Le Corsaire (The Pirate) at the London Coliseum in January 2014 it will be the first time the complete work will have been performed by a British company. The 19th century Russian swashbuckling dance-drama based on the poem The Corsair by Lord Byron showcases some of the most bravura male dancing in the ballet repertoire. The ballet is in three acts, telling the story of Medora, a young Greek girl, who seized by Conrad the pirate who takes her to his grotto and declares his love for her. The staging by Anna-Marie Holmes, after Marius Petipa and Konstantin Sergeyev, features music by Adolphe Adam, Leo Delibes and Prince Oldenbourg. Hollywood film designer Bob Ringwood (Batman, Alien 3, Star Trek Nemesis, AI and Troy) has created new sets and costumes. Check out our theatre ticket deals.
