English National Opera: ThebansDistinguished playwright Frank McGuinness creates a compelling re-telling of Sophocles's timeless Theban tragedy for the English National Opera which gets is world premiere at the London Coliseum in May 2014. Focusing on the fate of Oedipus and his daughter Antigone, this earth shattering story, an important ENO commission, unites the playwright with prize-winning British composer Julian Anderson ("a composer to cherish", The Times) who has written his first opear with this piece. De Nederlandse Opera Artistic Director Pierre Audi makes his much-anticipated ENO debut with this production, a tale of murder and incest, political ambition, and love and loyalty which ends in catastrophe. "Thebans in three words: families are terrifying" - Frank McGuinness.

About London Coliseum - English National Opera (ENO)

London Coliseum is a magnificent historic building and an excellent venue in which to enjoy the soaring sounds and high drama of some truly thrilling operas. This impressive theatre, which started its life as a venue for variety shows, is now - conversely - indistinguishable from its artistically first-class company in residence, the English National Opera.
